Ex-DIG Godwin Nwobodo Crowned Monarch of Ihueze-Nnewe Community in Enugu

The Nigeria Police Force has extended its congratulations to retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Godwin Nwobodo, following his installation as the traditional ruler of the Ihueze-Nnewe Autonomous Communities in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.

 

According to THE WHISTLER, DIG Nwobodo was formally crowned on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

 

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police described the coronation as a fitting recognition of Nwobodo’s lifetime of outstanding service, integrity, and dedication to leadership in both public service and community advancement.

 

The statement noted that his ascension to the respected traditional stool underscores the trust placed in his character, wisdom, and leadership abilities. It added that his move from national duty to traditional leadership represents a seamless continuation of his commitment to service, now focused on promoting peace, unity, cultural heritage, and sustainable development within his community.

 

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, also conveyed his confidence that the new monarch would draw on his extensive experience in leadership, governance, and conflict resolution in carrying out his royal duties.

 

DIG Nwobodo joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1984 and served for more than 30 years in various operational, administrative, and leadership capacities. During his career, he served as Director of Courses at the Nigeria Police Academy in Kano.

 

He eventually attained the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police, overseeing the Department of Information and Communication Technology at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, before retiring from active service on August 12, 2019.
