The Congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help of the Archangels Sisters (MOPHAS), located in Auchi, Edo State, has officially dismissed Reverend Sister Kinse Shako Annastasia from its religious order. The former nun announced her dismissal in a Facebook post on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, revealing that she received a formal letter of termination dated July 21, 2025. According to her post, upon returning to the convent, she found her personal belongings already packed and placed outside her room, and her religious habit taken from her. She stated that she was given a token amount of ₦100,000 upon her dismissal and clarified that she no longer possesses any property belonging to the congregation.

Annastasia, who is a trained formator and an academic staff member in the Software Engineering Department at Veritas University, Abuja, did not disclose the specific reasons for her dismissal. However, she had previously made public criticisms of the Catholic Church’s treatment of female religious members. In a widely shared Facebook post dated August 24, she challenged the Church to better protect Reverend Sisters, stating that they are not “ornaments in habits” or commodities for priests. She described troubling experiences, including being told by a priest that “Sisters are meant to be priests’ wives”—a statement she claimed was not made in jest.
In response to the growing attention, MOPHAS released an official letter on August 29, signed by Superior General Sr. Maryanne Ogwokhademhe and Secretary General Sr. Rosemary Odion, confirming that Annastasia was no longer a member of the congregation and asserting that her public claims were baseless and misleading.
