A fatal hit-and-run accident occurred late Saturday in the Onipanu area of Lagos State, claiming the life of an unidentified man. According to Nosa Okunbor, Head of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the incident took place around 9 p.m. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after striking the victim.
Upon receiving the report, LASEMA’s response team quickly arrived at the scene and discovered the victim had sustained severe head injuries. Despite receiving urgent medical attention from the agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit, the victim tragically succumbed to his injuries while being treated at the Trauma Centre in Gbagada.
Okunbor confirmed that the victim, an adult male whose identity remains unknown, was treated on-site before being transported for further care. Unfortunately, the severity of his injuries led to his death while receiving treatment. The deceased’s body was subsequently handed over to officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for appropriate action, with the body being taken to their office at Bolade Bus Stop.
This incident follows another hit-and-run case reported on August 19, where a trailer driver was apprehended by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for hitting a pedestrian in the Anthony Oke area of Lagos. The pedestrian in that case sustained serious injuries, including a broken leg, and received prompt medical attention from the Lagos State Ambulance Service. Authorities continue to warn of the dangers posed by reckless driving and the need for drivers to exercise caution on Lagos roads.
