FCT Minister Teleguiding Rivers Lawmakers to Impeach Governor – Dr. Nzomiwu

—– Says the unfolding impeachment move is externally driven rather than a product of genuine legislative grievances.

Veteran Journalist, Media Scholar and Public Relations Consultant, Dr. Chekwube Emmanuel Nzomiwu made this known while speaking on the topic “ Rivers State Politics:Can Governor Fubara be Impeached?,” on the programme, Beyond the Headlines on Freedom Square TV, anchored by Uchenna Cyril Anioke.

Dr. Nzomiwu stated that the FCT Minister is teleguiding the Rivers House of Assembly members to impeach the Governor, not constitutional oversight but a politically motivated operation.

He emphasized that the conduct and coordination of certain lawmakers suggest a calculated script allegedly being directed from Abuja.

According to him, “ it is a mutiny and not an impeachment process because it is a democratic coup. The speaker wants to topple the government. You know Martins Amaewhule is a very ambitious man. Is a very very ambitious man. He should look at his ambition because it is inordinate. Bringing deputy governor shows that they have ulterior motives and that ulterior motive is to remove the two of them so that Martins itself will now be in charge. Wike wants somebody that will be blindly loyal to him. How can you be dictating to a governor like that.”

He warned that such interference undermines democratic governance, violates the principles of federalism, and threatens the independence of state legislatures as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution.

Dr. Nzomiwu argued that impeachment is a serious constitutional process that must not be reduced to a political weapon deployed through external influence.

He therefore cautioned that allowing federal actors to manipulate state legislative processes could set a dangerous precedent for Nigeria’s democracy.
