On Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to Omoyele Sowore, a detained activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), in the amount of N10 million with one surety of similar value. In his ruling, Justice Musa Liman stated that the surety must be a responsible person who owns property valued at no less than the bail sum.
The surety will also be required to submit the original documents of the property, a passport photograph, and an affidavit of means.
Additionally, the judge instructed Sowore to surrender his international passport to the Deputy Registrar of the court. Sowore has 24 hours to fulfill the bail conditions, or he will remain in police custody.
Sowore was arraigned by the Police on Wednesday, facing 16 charges related to alleged cybercrime. Among the allegations, he is accused of referring to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, as an “illegal IG.”
