The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of the late Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife (Okwadike), the esteemed former governor of Anambra State, who peacefully passed away on December 14th, 2023.
A venerable elder statesman and dedicated Igbo activist, Dr. Ezeife was a stalwart supporter of the Ndigbo community and Nigerians at large. His achievements transcended conventional boundaries, spanning the realms of academia and politics.
Hailing from humble beginnings, Dr. Ezeife obtained his PhD in 1972 from Harvard University, distinguishing himself as a teaching fellow and consultant at Arthur D. Little in Massachusetts. His academic prowess extended to his tenure as a lecturer at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. His career trajectory culminated in his appointment as a Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service.
Renowned for his courage and eloquence, Dr. Ezeife’s contributions to the advancement and prosperity of the South-East geopolitical zone are unparalleled. Notably, under his leadership as Anambra State governor, both Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Federal Polytechnic Oko were elevated to federal institutions.
In recent times, Dr. Ezeife emerged as a prominent advocate for addressing the prevailing insecurity in the South-East. Additionally, he played a pivotal role as a distinguished member of the apex socio-cultural Igbo organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo. His mentoring and sagacious counsel will be profoundly missed by all who champion democratic ideals.
FOSAD passionately implores the federal government to honor this distinguished scion of Ndigbo by dedicating a national monument in recognition of his legacy.
Farewell, Okwadike! Your indomitable spirit shall forever inspire us.
Signed,
Dr. Uzor Ngoladi
Secretary-General, FOSAD
