Fubara Joins APC, Vows to Strengthen Party and Align Rivers State with Federal Leadership

The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift in the state. His entry into the party was formalized during a reception held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where he completed his APC membership forms and received both his party slip and membership card.

The delegation that welcomed him was led by the APC State Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, alongside the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo. Okocha explained that he had been instructed by the APC National Chairman to personally receive the governor and present him with his membership documents. He described the assignment as an important and honorable task, praising Fubara for taking a bold step by joining the party. According to him, he listened carefully when the governor publicly explained his reasons for leaving the PDP, and he found those reasons sincere and well-grounded.

Okocha expressed satisfaction that the governor had chosen to align himself with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political family. He assured Fubara that the APC would give him its full support, emphasizing that they now stand together on the same political platform and are ready to work hand-in-hand.

Responding, Governor Fubara explained that joining the APC was a strategic move meant to align Rivers State with the federal government for the sake of continued development. He noted that the state could not afford to operate in isolation, especially when national politics heavily influences local progress. According to him, being in the same party as the president will strengthen political stability and help Rivers State contribute more effectively to President Tinubu’s re-election efforts in 2027.

Fubara added that his decision was his own way of showing gratitude and ensuring a smoother path for the state in national politics. Now that everyone is working under the same political umbrella, he believes their collective efforts will be more coordinated and effective.

He vowed to strengthen the APC in Rivers State, promising to support the party’s structure, executives, and activities fully. Fubara assured party leaders that every need of the APC in the state would become his responsibility moving forward. He concluded by saying that their next task is to spread the message of the president, resolve lingering political tensions, and ensure that the APC enjoys widespread acceptance across the state.
