The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) in Plateau State has broken the silence to cry out on Wednesday that armed Fulani herdsmen, aka bandits, have killed over 11,000 of their people, including children and women, from 2001 to date and have also taken over 68 of their villages and communities.
Making the disclosure in a press conference with newsmen in Vom, Plateau State, the National President of the BYM, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, decried the recent attack on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Rantis Resettlement in Barkin Ladi purportedly by the same assailants who are hell benton driving the victims away permanently from their ancestralhomeland.
Recall that last Thursday, Fulani herdsmen attacked and killed many IDP’s who were in the process of rebuilding the ancestral homes they had been driven away from since 2015 when Muhammadu Buhari took over power as the President, Commander in Chief of Nigeria.
According to Barr. Mwantiri:
“It’s no longer news that over 68 villages and communities in Berom land have been sacked and are currently occupied by Fulani militias with no challenge whatsoever either from the Berom native owners or the government as well as security services in favour of justice, equity and fairness,”
The Federal Government had pledged N10 billion for the rehabilitation of the affected areas and to also site a Mobile Police Squadron to ensure security of the people, however, none has materialized leaving the people in a state of utter despondency.
