Gas Truck Explosion Rocks Mobil Filling Station in Lagos: A devastating fire outbreak occurred at a Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc filling station located near Airport Hotel, Ikeja,
on Obafemi Awolowo Way in Lagos State, causing severe burns to two
adult males and minor injuries to several others. The incident
happened around 11:00 am on Thursday, with the exact cause of the 12-ton gas truck explosion still unknown.
The Emergency Meeting
According to Nosa Okunbor, Head of Public Affairs at the Lagos
State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the agency
responded promptly to distress calls and activated its Tiger Response Team to contain the situation. Upon arrival, the team observed that the filling station
was engulfed in flames, with the fire attributed to the explosion of the gas truck, which impacted several cars and a nearby building.
Six vehicles, including commercial and private cars, were affected by the blast,
and the second floor of a two-storey building beside the gas station was also damaged.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities, and the injured individuals received
immediate medical attention from LASEMA’s Pre-Hospital Care Team
and LASAMBUS before being transferred to LASUTH for further treatment.

The fire was brought under control and contained by LASEMA’s LRT
and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, preventing it from spreading to surrounding buildings. An investigation into the cause of the incident is currently underway.
The swift response of the emergency services prevented a more catastrophic outcome, and the affected individuals are receiving the necessary medical care.
