GIG Logistics Confirms Driver’s Abduction by Suspected Terrorists in Borno

GIG Logistics has officially confirmed that one of its drivers, Adekunle Hafis Ganiyu, was kidnapped by suspected terrorists along the Gombi–Baromari Road in Borno State.

The company clarified that, contrary to circulating reports, the delivery vehicle Ganiyu was driving at the time of the attack has not been found or recovered since the incident occurred.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the firm’s Legal and Corporate Services Manager, Chukwudochie Runyi, GIG Logistics emphasised that its foremost priority is the safety and wellbeing of the abducted driver rather than the goods he was transporting.

According to the statement, the vehicle carrying shipments remains missing, but the organisation’s main concern is the health, security, and welfare of its staff member.

Runyi explained that the company has reported the abduction to the appropriate security agencies, which have since launched investigations aimed at addressing the situation. He noted that, in line with its responsibilities as a law-abiding corporate entity, GIG Logistics promptly notified law enforcement authorities to ensure swift action.

Earlier reports by SaharaReporters indicated that Ganiyu’s family, including his elderly mother, had appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum to urgently intervene and help secure his freedom. The driver, who works with GIG Logistics in Charity, Oshodi, Lagos State, was said to have been abducted on January 24, 2026, while carrying out his official duties.

A relative who spoke about the development described the incident as deeply traumatic for the family, particularly for his aged mother, who has reportedly been inconsolable since learning of her son’s abduction.

While the family claimed that the vehicle involved in the attack was later evacuated by the company, they said Ganiyu’s whereabouts remain unknown.

They described him as a diligent young man working hard to make an honest living when he was captured by suspected Boko Haram insurgents. The family has called on both the federal and Borno State governments to intensify rescue efforts and ensure his safe return.

Expressing hope and desperation, they urged authorities to act swiftly so that Ganiyu can be reunited alive with his loved ones.
