Governor Otti Dismisses Opposition Criticism, Vows to Let Performance Speak as PDP Lawmaker Defects to Labour Party

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has declared that he remains unshaken by what he referred to as the “noise” coming from the opposition party in the state. Speaking while hosting Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe—former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and current representative of Bende North State Constituency, who recently joined the Labour Party—Governor Otti emphasized that he is more focused on governance than political distractions.

The Governor dismissed the activities of some opposition politicians, suggesting that many of them do not genuinely intend to contest elections. According to him, such individuals often enter political races simply to gain recognition, engage in political bargaining, or lay the groundwork for future ambitions. He noted that many are not serious contenders but merely use election seasons to project themselves into public consciousness, with hopes of being acknowledged years down the line.

“We are not concerned with their noise,” Otti said. “Some people just want their names listed in the primaries, not because they believe they can win, but to be seen and noticed.” He further stressed that his administration’s response to opposition criticism is visible in the developmental work being carried out across Abia State.

Governor Otti reiterated that his priority is to fulfill the mandate given to him by the people, and he believes that effective leadership is best demonstrated through action and results. He emphasized that his government is not fixated on party affiliations but is instead committed to providing quality governance.

Congratulating Hon. Ibekwe on his move to the Labour Party, Otti pointed out that the decision was made voluntarily, without any external pressure. He also assured that the Labour Party welcomes new members warmly and that Ibekwe would be given full recognition as a ranking member.

In his remarks, Hon. Ibekwe expressed admiration for the Governor’s achievements, which he described as unprecedented in the state. He pledged his full support, along with that of his followers, to the Governor’s leadership and future political aspirations, especially his anticipated re-election campaign in 2027.
