The facility, a flagship project under the Enugu State Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, is part of Governor C Peter Mbah’s drive to modernize and reposition education in the state.
The delegation, led by the Guild’s Chairman, Dr. Ambrose Igboke, was warmly received by the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Professor Ndubueze Mbah, alongside the Executive Chairman of the Science, Technical and Vocational Management Board, Dr. Amaka Ngene, and their respective teams. The visit was organized to acquaint the Guild with the facilities and innovative learning models introduced at the Government Technical College.
While addressing the visiting team, Professor Mbah reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to equipping students with 21st-century skills tailored to meet global education standards and local industrial demands. He explained that the Smart School concept offers students two distinct educational pathways after basic education: advancing to senior secondary and tertiary institutions, or opting for a vocational track, which involves three years of intensive training and skill development to produce master craftsmen, culminating in a diploma of expertise.
The commissioner further highlighted the school’s modern, eco-friendly infrastructure, powered by solar renewable energy and designed to simulate practical, real-life situations in every classroom and workshop. According to him, the curriculum encourages collaborative learning, hands-on training, and micro-skill acquisition in partnership with notable institutions such as Innoson Kiara Academy, Enugu Air, and the Government Technical College.
During the facility tour, the Guild was shown various specialized departments, including the welding department covering metal fabrication, drilling, and manipulation , the hospitality department covering hotel management, event planning, and customer service as well as the fashion and garment design department, which incorporates fabric crafting and runway presentation. The ICT and Innovation Hub stood out with its array of mechatronic gadgets and artificial intelligence learning tools. Each workshop is structured to accommodate 20 students per session on a rotational schedule, serving up to 150 students daily, with a nearby standard classroom for each category of skill.
Additional facilities inspected included a hostel facility with a 500-bed capacity each for male and female students, administrative blocks, teachers’ quarters, a hybrid digital library, the principal’s residence, staff rooms, and a modern school auditorium.
The Guild of Public Affairs Analysts commended the Enugu State Government for its forward-thinking education reforms and pledged continued partnership in advocating for policies that support youth skill development and technical education advancement in the state.
