Jude Okoye, the elder brother of Nigerian music duo Peter and Paul Okoye (known as Psquare), has been released from Ikoyi prison following the fulfillment of his bail conditions. This development comes in the midst of a high-profile trial involving money laundering allegations totaling N1.38 billion. Jude, who was also the former manager of Psquare and runs Northside Music Limited, is currently facing a seven-count charge at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, presided over by Justice A. Owoeye. The charges include accusations of laundering not only Nigerian currency but also substantial foreign sums — specifically $1 million and £34,537.59. He initially entered a plea of not guilty during his arraignment on February 26, 2025. The court subsequently granted him bail, which was set at N100 million.
However, on March 3, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) introduced four new charges. These fresh allegations claim that Jude misappropriated music royalties intended for his brothers. According to the EFCC, he converted large amounts of money — including $767,544.15, £34,537.59, $133,566.49, and $118,652.20 — for personal use, effectively depriving Peter of earnings he was entitled to. A separate bail of N50 million was set in connection with these new charges, which Jude initially struggled to meet.
On Wednesday evening, Paul Okoye took to Instagram to announce Jude’s release. He shared emotional videos of their reunion, expressing relief that the attempts to obstruct Jude’s bail had failed. In a court testimony, Peter also spoke candidly about the deterioration of his professional relationship with Jude, revealing tensions that may have contributed to the ongoing legal battle.
