Knights of St. John International Hold Noble Degree Exemplification in Enugu, Bishop Onaga Urges Faith and Service

On Saturday, March 1st, the Knights of St. John International held their coronation ceremony for the Noble Degree exemplification at Nigeria Temple 1, Holy Ghost Cathedral in Enugu. The event featured a solemn Mass officiated by the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Bishop C.V.C. Onaga. This significant occasion gathered members of the knightly order, religious leaders, and distinguished guests to witness the induction of new noble brothers into the order.

During his sermon, Bishop Onaga emphasized that knighthood within the order is a sacred calling, akin to the priesthood, and is founded on monastic discipline. He explained that there are various religious and military orders, each established with a unique purpose, and the Knights of St. John International hold a distinct mission. The bishop pointed out that the sword carried by the knights is not a weapon for violence but rather a symbol of their commitment to defending and upholding the teachings of Christ. This sword represents love, sacrifice, and the struggle for righteousness rather than being an instrument for shedding blood.

Furthermore, the bishop reminded the knights that their role extends beyond acts of charity. He stressed the importance of faith, personal discipline, and moral integrity. He urged them to serve as role models to society, demonstrating true Christian virtues in their daily lives. According to him, being a knight means living an exemplary life that reflects Christian values, encouraging others to deepen their faith, and contributing positively to their communities. He acknowledged that his office had received petitions and reports regarding some aspiring members, including concerns from their home communities. He advised the knights to uphold their responsibilities diligently, ensuring that only individuals with strong moral character are admitted into the order.

Bishop Onaga also encouraged the knights to remain steadfast in prayer, emphasizing that spirituality should be at the core of their service. He congratulated the newly inducted noble brothers and charged them to take their responsibilities seriously, embracing a life of devotion and commitment to the faith.

At the conclusion of the Mass, the chaplain and spiritual director, Rev. Fr. Clement Obasi, expressed his gratitude to the bishop for his continuous support, guidance, and fatherly care towards the Knights of Enugu Diocese. He commended the bishop for his dedication to strengthening the order and nurturing its members in their spiritual journey.

The event was further dignified by the presence of several high-ranking officials of the order. Among them were Grand Master Brigadier General P.U. Adimorah, Brigadier General Obiora Amadi of the Enugu Grand Commandery, Brigadier General Charles Olechukwu of the Onitsha Grand Commandery, Brigadier General Jonathan Ezeuchu of the Awka Grand Commandery, and Brigadier General Edwin Ukoha of the Nnewi Grand Commandery. Their presence underscored the significance of the occasion and the unity within the order.

The coronation ceremony was not only a moment of celebration but also a time of reflection and renewal of commitment for the knights. The bishop’s message served as a reminder of their duty to uphold Christian values, strengthen their faith, and continue their service to the church and society with dedication and integrity.
