—– Says the intervention was meant to honour the courage, dedication and ultimate sacrifice of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The Lagos State Government has disbursed ₦40 million as consolatory support to families and dependants of deceased officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), reaffirming its commitment to welfare, compassion and institutional recognition of sacrifice.
The presentation, coordinated by the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, took place at LASTMA headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos. According to a statement released via the agency’s official X handle on Thursday, 20 beneficiary families each received ₦2 million.
Hon. Giwa described the gesture as a symbolic yet tangible expression of the government’s solidarity with the families of fallen officers, stressing that no financial support can adequately compensate for the value of human life.
“The Lagos State Government remains resolute in ensuring that the memories and sacrifices of these gallant men and women are immortalised. Their families will not be left to shoulder the burden of loss alone,” Giwa stated.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr Olawale Musa, commended the state government for prioritising empathy and humane governance, noting that the initiative reinforces public trust and reassures serving officers that dedication and sacrifice will always be recognised.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, in his welcome address, described the fallen officers as selfless patriots whose legacy of discipline and service would remain indelible in the history of the agency. He praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for sustaining a governance culture that places human dignity at its core.
In her remarks, the wife of the pioneer General Manager of LASTMA, Late Engr. Adebayo Adegboayega Coker, encouraged beneficiary families to judiciously utilise the support for the education and welfare of their children, whom she described as enduring legacies of the fallen officers.
Delivering an emotional vote of thanks, the wife of Late Adeyemo Rotimi expressed profound appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu on behalf of all beneficiaries, applauding his empathy and assurance that the sacrifices of their loved ones would continue to be honoured within the Lagos State public service.
