Lagos Police Foil Robbery in Ajegunle, Arrest Two Suspects and Recover Firearm

The Lagos State Police Command successfully foiled a robbery attempt in the Ajegunle area, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a firearm. The suspects, identified as 25-year-olds Azeez Anofi, also known by the alias “Stainless,” and Damilare Obadia, were intercepted by officers from the Layeni Police Division around 6:30 a.m. on Monday. The suspects allegedly tried to steal a commercial tricycle, commonly referred to as Keke Marwa, on Layeni Ojo Road.

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspects were found in possession of a locally fabricated pistol and one expended cartridge at the time of their arrest. The police have launched further investigations to apprehend additional individuals connected to the attempted robbery and to recover more weapons used in the operation.

Hundeyin explained that the prompt intervention by officers from the Layeni Division led to the swift apprehension of the two men while they were in the act of trying to hijack the tricycle. Their possession of a firearm reinforces suspicions that they are part of a broader criminal network operating in the area. The police believe that more suspects may still be at large and are working diligently to bring them to justice.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for their prompt and effective response, which helped prevent what could have been a more serious incident. He further encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior or activities to the nearest police station to help ensure public safety and maintain order across Lagos.

This incident underscores the continued efforts by the Lagos State Police Command to tackle crime and maintain peace in the state’s more vulnerable areas.
