MBF Mourns Chief Edwin Clark, Hails His Legacy of Justice and National Unity

The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has expressed deep sadness over the passing of Chief Edwin Clark, a highly respected elder statesman and nationalist. Chief Clark, who was widely known for his unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and federalism in Nigeria, passed away peacefully in Abuja on the evening of Monday, February 17, 2025. He was 97 years old and was surrounded by his family and loved ones at the time of his death.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Kaduna by its national spokesman, Luka Binniyat, the MBF described Chief Clark’s death as a significant loss, marking the end of an era in Nigeria’s struggle for fairness and inclusivity. The forum emphasized his immense contributions to national development, particularly his advocacy for the welfare of the Middle Belt region.

Dr. Bitrus Pogu, the MBF President, highlighted that Chief Clark was a steadfast supporter of the Middle Belt, standing with the region through its most difficult moments and making significant interventions to champion its cause. He noted that Clark devoted his entire life to serving Nigeria, working tirelessly to promote justice, peace, and the protection of marginalized ethnic groups. His unwavering dedication to fairness and national unity set him apart as a remarkable leader who played a crucial role in advocating for an inclusive and just Nigeria.

The MBF also expressed sorrow over the nearly simultaneous passing of another influential leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo of Afenifere, stating that their deaths represent a major loss not only to their respective regions but to the entire country. The forum acknowledged their invaluable leadership, wisdom, and relentless pursuit of justice, noting that their absence will be deeply felt.

In conclusion, the MBF offered prayers for Chief Clark’s soul, hoping that his legacy continues to inspire the ongoing struggle for a just and equitable Nigeria. The statement expressed hope that he would be received with open arms by the Almighty after a lifetime of selfless service to humanity.
