Civic organization MonitNG has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, to urgently address the severe water shortage affecting Gurfata community in Ibwa Ward, Gwagwalada Area Council. In a statement shared on its X handle on Wednesday, MonitNG drew attention to the dire situation faced by residents who have no access to boreholes or reliable wells. As a result, they are forced to rely on contaminated streams for their water needs.
MonitNG warned that this situation has led to serious health issues, including the spread of waterborne diseases and even fatalities. The organization emphasized that access to clean and safe water is a basic human right and called for immediate action to resolve the crisis.
MonitNG’s statement highlighted the ongoing suffering in Gurfata, stressing that without boreholes or reliable water sources, the community continues to endure severe water scarcity. The group also noted that residents had previously complained about government neglect, with earlier calls for water infrastructure going unanswered.
In light of the urgent need for intervention, MonitNG called for the drilling of boreholes and the provision of sustainable water solutions to alleviate the crisis. The organization warned that swift action is necessary to prevent further harm and potential loss of life in the community.
