Nationwide Search for Nigeria’s Best Home Cook Launched by MasterChef Nigeria

MasterChef Nigeria has officially launched a nationwide hunt to find Nigeria’s best home cook, offering a life-changing ₦73 million grand prize and the historic title of the country’s first MasterChef. This ambitious culinary initiative marks the debut of MasterChef Nigeria — the local adaptation of the globally renowned “MasterChef” franchise, bringing the celebrated format to Nigerian audiences for the first time. The launch has been widely welcomed as a milestone that promises to spotlight the nation’s rich food culture and give passionate amateur cooks a platform to shine.

Brought to Nigeria by African media giant Primedia, the competition will be broadcast on DStv’s Africa Magic channels, making it accessible to millions of viewers across the continent. Aspiring contestants from every part of the country are encouraged to enter before the application deadline of 27 February 2026, with eligibility open to Nigerian citizens aged 18 and above, holding valid passports, and who have not worked professionally as chefs.

Once applications close, contestants will be selected to compete through a series of culinary challenges designed to test creativity, technique, flavour mastery, and presentation skills. Judges — to be announced — will evaluate each dish, drawing inspiration from Nigeria’s diverse cuisines while also challenging participants with international culinary standards. The format has helped unearth culinary stars in other countries and is expected to do the same for Nigerian talent.

Organisers describe MasterChef Nigeria as more than just a cooking show — it’s a cultural celebration of Nigeria’s vibrant culinary heritage, rooted in both contemporary innovation and traditional flavours. Tamara van Eeckhoven, Managing Director of Primedia Africa, said the show will “celebrate the country’s exquisite cuisine” and nurture next-generation culinary talent. Africa Magic’s CEO — Kemi Omotosho — echoed this sentiment, pointing to the show’s potential to elevate local content and storytelling on screens across Africa.

The staggering ₦73 million prize pool not only offers financial reward but also career transformation: the winner will join the global community of MasterChef alumni and likely gain opportunities in Nigeria’s fast-growing food and hospitality sectors. As the competition unfolds, it is expected to generate considerable excitement among food lovers and home cooks alike, with viewers tuning in to witness the rise of Nigeria’s next culinary champion.
