The family of Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea, the lawmaker representing Enugu North Senatorial District in the 10th Senate, has announced his passing, describing it as a deeply painful loss. Senator Ezea died at a private hospital in Lagos at about 11:07 p.m. on Tuesday, 18th November 2025, following a brief illness.
Until his death, Senator Ezea was widely regarded as one of the most active and influential voices in the 10th National Assembly. At the start of the legislative session, he served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, before taking on other high-profile roles, including Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing and Urban Development. At the time of his passing, he also served as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committees on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and NEPAD, as well as Culture and Creative Economy.
Senator Ezea’s legislative career was marked by purposeful and impactful contributions. He sponsored the bill establishing the Federal College of Agriculture, Adani, and championed the creation of Adada State, a project he pursued with remarkable consistency despite his health challenges.
He also pushed several motions on national security, including one calling for a military base in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area to curb persistent attacks by rampaging herdsmen.
Before winning the Enugu North Senate seat in 2023 under the Labour Party, Senator Ezea was a founding member of the APC in Enugu State and played a pivotal role in building the party’s structure beginning in 2013. He was a three-time governorship contender, running in 2007, 2011, and 2015.
His 2023 Senate victory, where he defeated an incumbent governor remains a defining milestone in his political career.
Beyond elective office, Ezea served the nation in other capacities, including as Chairman of the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, Taraba State.
Senator Okey Ezea is survived by his wife, Chioma, and four children.
