The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Warri Zone has exposed an illegal baby factory masquerading as a medical hospital along Orhuwhorun Road in Udu Local Government Area, Delta State. The revelation came during the association’s routine monitoring exercise aimed at identifying medical quackery and unregistered health facilities in the region.
Dr. Djebah Bright, Chairman of the NMA Warri Zone, confirmed the discovery, revealing that four babies were found in the illicit facility, which was being managed by unqualified personnel. He explained that the association’s monthly monitoring activities led to uncovering the unauthorized operation.
Following the discovery, the NMA promptly alerted law enforcement authorities. The police arrested the owner of the illegal health center and an auxiliary nurse who was found caring for the babies. Dr. Bright confirmed the arrests and stressed the swift action taken by the authorities.
Subsequently, the babies were transferred by the police to a secure orphanage in Asaba, where they are now receiving proper care. The exact location of the orphanage remains undisclosed for security reasons.
Dr. Bright emphasized the association’s dedication to protecting public health by identifying and shutting down fake medical establishments. He reiterated the NMA’s ongoing efforts to combat medical malpractice and ensure the safety of the community by rooting out quackery in the healthcare sector.
