Otti Appoints Dr. Emmanuel Meribole as Acting Secretary to Abia State Government

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has given approval for the appointment of Dr. Emmanuel Meribole as the Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG). This development comes after Governor Otti endorsed a request allowing the current SSG, Professor Kenneth Kalu, to embark on a leave of absence.

The announcement was officially made on Friday morning by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha. According to the statement, Dr. Meribole, who presently serves as the Governor’s Special Adviser on Projects, will formally take over the duties of Acting SSG starting January 1, 2026.

To guarantee an orderly change of leadership, the government has scheduled the transition process to begin on Monday, December 15, 2025. During this period, Professor Kalu is expected to collaborate closely with Dr. Meribole to maintain continuity in government business and ensure that ongoing policies, programmes, and administrative activities proceed without interruption.

Dr. Meribole, a trained medical doctor, brings with him a wealth of experience from various sectors. Before joining the Abia State administration, he had a distinguished career in the federal service, retiring as the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development. As Special Adviser on Projects, he has played a significant role in advancing major developmental efforts in the state, earning commendation for his professionalism and versatility.

The Governor described his appointment as Acting SSG as a reflection of his consistent performance, competence, and unwavering commitment to the administration’s goals. Governor Otti also used the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Professor Kalu, praising his exemplary service and dedication to the people of Abia State.
