Otti’s Reforms Are Transforming Abia State
Otti’s Reforms Are Transforming Abia State: Abia State is experiencing a
transformative period under Governor Alex Otti’s leadership, marked by
significant reforms in healthcare and infrastructure. This “new dawn” aims to
enhance the quality of life for Abia residents.
Healthcare Reforms
The governor has prioritized upgrading and reaccrediting the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), which had lost its accreditation under the previous administration. Healthcare
professionals at ABSUTH, previously unpaid for over two years, now receive their
salaries on time, with the governor clearing the salary backlog . The hospital is also hiring additional staff to meet growing healthcare demands. Furthermore, plans are underway to establish 200 primary health centers across Abia’s 17 Local Government Areas .
Infrastructure Development
Key roads, such as University Road, College Road, and Green Avenue, have been
repaired, linking ABSUTH to important areas like Afule Market and Osisioma Flyover.
Major roads in Aba, including Ohanku Road and Port-Harcourt Road, are undergoing reconstruction,
with upgrades like traffic lights and improved roundabouts. The expansion of Ossah Road, now renamed Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard, has been completed in Umuahia . Other ongoing projects include the reconstruction of the Umuahia-Arochukwu Highway and key roads in Isiukwuato and Umunneochi.
Rural Development and Future Plans
The governor has flagged off the reconstruction of Umuoba, Isialangwa South to Obingwa Road, as part of the Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAAMP). Future plans include dualizing major roads and installing over 5,000 solar-powered streetlights to enhance security and beautify the environment. Governor Otti’s vision for a transformed Abia State is just beginning, with residents and stakeholders encouraged to visit ongoing projects.
Economic Revitalization
Otti’s administration has implemented economic reforms to accelerate growth, reducing corruption and increasing state revenue by 15%. He has also launched the Abia Economic Development Plan, focusing on manufacturing, technology, and agriculture investments to diversify the state’s economy. This has attracted nearly $200 million in private investments, a significant improvement from previous years.
Youth Empowerment
Youth empowerment programs, including skill acquisition initiatives and job creation schemes, have been launched to nurture the potential of Abia’s youth.
Governor Otti’s reforms aim to secure a brighter future for Abia State, addressing the challenges of the past and setting the stage for long-term, sustainable progress.
