PAWA PLEDGES TO SUPPORT AFRICAN PUBLISHERS: African Publishers gathered together for Two days in Harare, Zimbabwe for the 2nd African Publishers Conference, 3-4 June, 2024
at the ARIPO headquarters. The two days conference witnessed the attendance of presidents of national publishers associations
in Africa and the active participation of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO ), International Publishers Association
(IPA), UNESCO, IFFRO and the Pan African Writers Association. Uchenna Cyril Anioke, President of Nigerian Publishers
Assocaition was part of the two days all important conference.
The Secretary General of Pan African Writers Assocaition, the versatile and cerebral Dr Wale Okediran actively participated.
He expressed the appreciation of PAWA to APNET for inviting him. His statement reads:
In the face of dire economic challenges and dwindling support from our traditional partners, it is very imperative for
Writers and Publishers to collaborate on a number of Literary projects’.
the collaborations
Some of the areas of collaboration as proposed by the PAWA Scribe include the use of story books to address developmental issues,
translations of major literary works into African languages as well as the need to embrace the use of technology in publishing.
The well organized two day event was attended by Publishers and partners including a Representative of the Afrixem Bank,
organizers of the 2024 CANEX Prize for Publishing in Africa
