PDP Crisis Deepens as Wike, Fayose, 9 Others Receive Expulsion Certificates; Governors Kick Back

——- Says the expulsions signal the party’s renewed commitment to discipline and the elimination of internal sabotage.

The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a dramatic turn on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, as the party formally issued expulsion certificates to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, and nine other top members.

The announcement was made during a press briefing following the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja.

PDP National Chairman Kabiru Turaki said the decision was part of a strategic effort to sanitise the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The motion to expel the leaders had originated from the PDP national convention in Ibadan, moved by former national vice chairman Olabode George and seconded by Bauchi State chairman Samaila Burga.

Those listed for expulsion include the PDP’s national legal adviser Adeyemi Ajibade (SAN), AbdulRahman Mohammed, George Turner, Dan Orbih, Umar Bature, Austin Nwachukwu, Mao Chuambuwa, and Abraham Ammah.

However, the move has sparked pushback from within the party. Governors Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau openly dissociated themselves from the decision, saying it neither reflected their stance nor followed due party processes.

Through his press director, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang said the matter was never discussed at the PDP Governors’ Forum nor tabled before the National Executive Committee (NEC), warning that such actions risk further destabilizing the party at a time unity is critical.

Governor Fintiri echoed the concerns, adding that expelling high-profile members like Wike and others could deepen tensions and portray the party negatively.

He emphasized his loyalty to the PDP but insisted he would not support decisions that undermine collective interests.

The development is expected to intensify debates over leadership, loyalty, and strategy within the party as it navigates turbulent waters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
