President Bola Tinubu has approved the creation of a new Federal University in Southern Kaduna, aiming to expand access to higher education in the region. Vice-President Kashim Shettima announced this during a condolence visit to Bishop Matthew Kukah, following the death of his brother, Yohanna, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area. This initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s strategy to enhance education in underserved areas.
Shettima also highlighted federal plans to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan. This healthcare initiative is intended to address the region’s medical infrastructure needs, demonstrating the government’s focus on improving both education and healthcare facilities in Southern Kaduna.
Additionally, the Vice-President discussed the recent appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, a move aimed at bolstering security in the area, which has faced persistent challenges. Shettima praised Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for his inclusive governance efforts and assured federal support for key infrastructure projects, particularly in road development.
These measures underline the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling the developmental and security issues affecting Southern Kaduna. By focusing on education, healthcare, and infrastructure, the government seeks to foster growth and inclusivity, while addressing longstanding challenges in the region. The initiatives reflect a broader national agenda of improving living standards and ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities.
