The incident occurred on Monday night, with the police quickly responding to the situation, bringing it under control. While the exact cause of the fire has not been determined, two individuals have been arrested for questioning in relation to the incident.

Superintendent of Police and Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, issued a statement on Tuesday confirming the fire at the pipeline, located on the border between Kpor and Bodo communities. In her statement, Iringe-Koko did not provide specifics on whether the fire was caused by an explosion or a spill that later ignited, nor did she attribute the cause to any militant group. However, she mentioned that a security surveillance team noticed the fire during a routine patrol and immediately notified the SPDC operators.

This quick response helped contain the situation, ensuring there was no further threat to both residents and the environment. Iringe-Koko emphasized that, as a result of the swift intervention, the incident was now under control.
In response to the fire, the police have launched an investigation to determine the cause. Two individuals have been arrested and are being questioned in connection with the incident.
