Rotimi Amaechi Declares 2027 Presidential Ambition Under ADC, Vows to Challenge Tinubu

Former Minister of Transportation and prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to contest the 2027 presidential election under the ADC platform. Speaking with journalists in Kano after meeting with a coalition of traders, the former Rivers State governor firmly declared that there would be “no retreat, no surrender” in his pursuit of the nation’s highest office.

In a separate interview with the BBC Hausa Service, monitored in Kaduna, Amaechi confirmed his intention to participate in the ADC’s presidential primary. He expressed confidence in his chances, stating that with God’s grace, he would secure the party’s ticket and face off against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election. Amaechi emphasized that he has no intention of stepping aside for any other aspirant, asserting that the choice of leadership should be left to the electorate.

Addressing internal party dynamics, Amaechi acknowledged that other candidates also have the right to contest, which he described as a positive sign for internal democracy within the ADC. He insisted that healthy competition within the party should be encouraged rather than suppressed.

Commenting on the current state of governance under President Tinubu, Amaechi voiced strong criticism. He claimed that widespread dissatisfaction exists across the country, not just in the North or South, but nationwide. According to him, citizens are experiencing economic hardship and a lack of inclusivity in Tinubu’s administration. Amaechi argued that the president’s appointments have been narrow and favor a select few, even among the Yoruba people.

When asked about the possibility of zoning the ADC’s presidential ticket to the South, Amaechi said the decision rests with the party leadership. However, he reiterated his determination to remain in the race regardless of zoning arrangements.

Amaechi also highlighted his qualifications and national appeal, describing himself as a unifying figure capable of bridging regional divides. He cited his recent visit to Rivers State, where a large and enthusiastic crowd welcomed him without financial incentives, as a testament to his grassroots support and growing popularity.
