Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended Wale Ajetunmobi, his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, over a controversial post made on his personal “X” account. The announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.
The suspension follows remarks made by Ajetunmobi regarding the aftermath of the 2020 #EndSARS protests, specifically the burning of the Television Continental (TVC) station in Lagos. In the post, Ajetunmobi, using the handle #Riddwane, alleged that those responsible for the arson had been “hunted down and executed.” While refraining from identifying who carried out these alleged actions, Ajetunmobi suggested he had additional, undisclosed information about the events.
He wrote, “The full story of people who burnt down TVC in 2020 will be told one day, with gory clips and images. One thing to note: the majority of them have been hunted down and executed. One of them, a young boy trading in cooking gas around Ketu, was found with an AK-47 at the site. Even his neighbors were shocked. But the full gist is better saved for later.”
Reacting to the post, Akosile clarified that the Lagos State government firmly opposes any form of extrajudicial punishment and disassociates itself from such claims.
In his statement, Akosile emphasized that the suspension was due to Ajetunmobi’s “misrepresentation of facts” and reiterated that Sanwo-Olu’s administration adheres to the principles of justice and the rule of law. “That is not who we are. That is not our way,” he concluded.
