Security Expert Applauds Gov Mbah’s Tech-Driven Crime Crackdown, Urges Community Involvement

Commandant Edwin Ugwuja (rtd), a seasoned security consultant and former Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Taraba State, recently praised Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for his innovative approach to enhancing security through advanced technology. Ugwuja highlighted the significant impact of the governor’s introduction of a Rapid Command and Control Centre in Enugu. He noted that this center facilitates accurate intelligence gathering and enables swift responses by security personnel during emergencies, which is crucial in the fight against crime.

However, Ugwuja suggested that to improve security coverage across the entire state, two additional Rapid Command and Control Centres should be established in the other senatorial zones. According to him, having centers strategically located in all three zones would foster better coordination and make it easier to track criminal activities, especially those crossing state borders.

The consultant also applauded Governor Mbah’s broader infrastructural efforts, emphasizing the ongoing dualisation of the Opi-Ugwuogo-Enugu road as a measure that would significantly reduce crime such as kidnappings in that area. He further commended the governor for investments in health and education, including the development of smart green schools equipped with modern facilities, stating that such initiatives promote positive mindsets that deter criminal behavior.

Ugwuja urged citizens to actively participate in security by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities promptly, reminding them that security operatives rely heavily on community cooperation and timely information. He also advocated for a community-based whistle alert system to raise quick alarms in neighborhoods and encouraged the establishment of security trust funds by affluent community members to support government efforts. He emphasized that effective security is a collective responsibility requiring the involvement of both government and citizens.
