Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has strongly defended Senate President Godswill Akpabio against allegations of corruption and misconduct, countering claims made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. In a statement, Murray-Bruce described Akpabio as a man of unquestionable integrity, emphasizing that both Nigeria and the South-South region are fortunate to have him in a leadership position at this critical point in the nation’s development.
Addressing the corruption allegations, Murray-Bruce argued that Akpabio has been thoroughly investigated by both independent agencies and political adversaries, yet has consistently emerged without any evidence of wrongdoing. He stressed that Nigeria needs stability and competent leaders, and that institutions like the National Assembly should not be undermined for partisan reasons.
The former senator also expressed his strong commitment to defending Nigeria’s democratic institutions, stating that he would not remain silent while individuals attempt to damage the credibility of the legislature. He reaffirmed his support for Akpabio, stating that personal attacks and unverified accusations should never take precedence over facts.
Murray-Bruce further emphasized his national pride, asserting that he would continue to protect Nigeria’s image on the global stage. He dismissed the accusations against Akpabio as mere hearsay and political rhetoric, urging Nigerians to focus on truth rather than speculation.
His remarks come in response to Atiku Abubakar’s recent criticism, where the former Vice President labeled Akpabio as corrupt and an abuser of women. Murray-Bruce firmly rejected these claims, calling them baseless and politically motivated.
