SUMAS Hosts 3rd Matriculation Ceremony as Governor Mbah Advances Educational Growth

 

The State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, celebrated its 3rd matriculation ceremony on Saturday, March 22, 2025, welcoming 1,225 new students to its academic community.

Professor Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi, Honourable Commissioner for Health, represented Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah at the ceremony. Other dignitaries included Barrister Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, and Deputy Chairman of ALGON, Enugu State. SUMAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor James Chukwuma Ogbonna, highlighted the university’s impressive strides in growth and innovation during his address.

Governor Mbah’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to transforming SUMAS into a premier institution. He commended its infrastructural and academic progress and assured continuous investment in education, healthcare, and research. Students were encouraged to pursue excellence, discipline, and innovation in their academic journey.

 

With 1,199 new admissions and 26 inter-university transfers, SUMAS recorded a 58% enrollment increase from the previous year. Infrastructure and academic expansion include ongoing construction projects like the Teaching Hospital and enhanced solar-powered facilities.

 

SUMAS has also launched groundbreaking programs and established global academic partnerships, positioning itself as a leader in medical and applied sciences education in Nigeria. Through progressive initiatives, the university aims to empower future generations and maintain a reputation for excellence.
