Udenu LGA Chairman Initiates Inspection and Commits to Addressing Facility Deterioration

In a decisive move to restore order and maintain the integrity of public facilities, Aka Eze Aka, the Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, conducted a thorough inspection of the Udenu LGA Secretariat yesterday Tuesday, 29th October 2024. Accompanied by Onyekachi C. Ugwu, Barr. Ikechukwu Eze, and the Local Government Engineer, the Chairman expressed serious concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of the offices and facilities.

During the inspection, which spanned both the old and new buildings of the Secretariat, Aka was met with alarming levels of decay and a glaring absence of a maintenance culture among staff. Dismayed by the lack of accountability, he issued an ultimatum to all personnel occupying offices that fail to meet acceptable standards. “You must either take immediate corrective action or vacate these premises,” he asserted.

A particularly distressing discovery during the inspection was the state of the over 500-capacity seater pavilion. This facility, essential for crowd gatherings and events, has been subjected to vandalism, with approximately 100 seats reported as damaged and stolen by unidentified culprits. The sight of the vandalized seating left the Chairman even more resolute in his commitment to safeguarding public property.

To counter ongoing acts of vandalism, the Chairman directed the Neighborhood Watch Security Outfit of the Local Government to mount 24-hour surveillance over the pavilion, underscoring the importance of protecting Government assets. “We must ensure that anyone attempting to damage this facility is apprehended and held accountable for their actions,” he stated firmly.

Aka’s proactive approach signals a new direction for Udenu LGA governance, one focused on accountability and the preservation of public resources. His commitment to restoring the integrity of the Local Government Secretariat and addressing vandalism is a call to action for residents and stakeholders alike.

As the Local Government prepares to enforce these measures, the entire people of Udenu are urged to cooperate and support the initiative to foster a culture of maintenance and respect for public facilities. The Udenu LGA is set to witness a reinvigoration of pride in its communal spaces if these efforts to curb vandalism and neglect are successful.
