UNN Celebrates Remarkable Achievement: A significant milestone was achieved as the
University of Nigeria, Nsukka
(UNN) proudly announced that a remarkable total of 252 students graduated
with first-class honors degrees. The declaration was made by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Igwe,
during a pre-convocation press briefing convened at the main hall of the University’s Enugu campus.
Prof. Igwe expressed delight in disclosing that the upcoming 52nd convocation
ceremony would witness the awarding of a total of 12,526 degrees, showcasing an
increase of 1,082 compared to the figures from the previous convocation. Breaking down the results,
he outlined that 4,834 students attained second-class upper division honors, 5,883 secured
second-class lower division honors, while 747 achieved third-class honors.
Additionally, 25 individuals graduated with a pass degree.

Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor revealed that the convocation ceremony would also confer
a total of 1,438 postgraduate degrees and diplomas. Among these, 412 individuals would be
bestowed with Doctorate Degrees, while 961 would receive Master’s degrees, along with 75 postgraduate diplomas.
Highlighting the academic significance of the convocation, Prof. Igwe announced that a
distinguished convocation lecture titled “Why Universities Should Lead The Way to A New Nigeria” would be delivered by His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State, on May 9.

Seizing the moment to showcase the university’s accomplishments under his tenure,
Prof. Igwe emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to elevating the institution’s standards.
He underscored the completion of 12 projects and the inauguration of two new ones, including the eagerly
awaited senate building and a new edifice for the Department of Mass Communication. Additionally,
he reflected on the challenges overcome in securing approval and funding for the senate building, hailing it as a significant infrastructural triumph for the University of Nigeria.
