—- Says political relevance and representation can only be achieved through massive voter participation.
A Professor of Government and Public Administration and former Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) branch, Prof. Jude Udenta made this known while speaking on the topic “Continuous Voters Registration and the 2027 Elections: Issues, Challenges and Prospects,” on the programme, Beyond the Headlines on Freedom Square TV, anchored by Uchenna Cyril Anioke.
Prof. Udenta called on residents of the South East zone to actively participate in the ongoing voters registration exercise.
In his words, “ been apathetic does not solve the problem. We should not run away from our responsibility. Our people should not think because of the frustration, they should not register. They should keep registering, let them go and register. I know that it is not easy especially when people are hungry. Outside apathy, there is also fear especially in those areas that do not have good roads and other things. But having said that ,we should go and register because not registering is being suicidal, because nobody know what will happen tomorrow.”
He therefore emphasized that registering to vote is a fundamental civic duty and a critical step toward ensuring that the people of the region have a strong voice in Nigeria’s democratic process.
