The former Minister of Steel and also former chairman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Wantaregh Paul Unongo, has in an address to the media in Jos on Tuesday, expressed deep regret for leading President Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential campaign in 2015 adding that “Some of us who went for Buhari endangered our lives.”
Unongo explained that his regret stems from a disatisfaction with the poor performance of the Buhari administration adding that that history will judge him (Buhari) when he leaves office in 2023. In the former minister’s words:
“Many of us are dissatisfied, and I am far too elderly to be silent. We are dissatisfied with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari’s performance.
“He could have done better, but he fell short of our expectations. History will record that he has his people’s complete backing; some of them took a chance. Because of what he had done in the past, I accepted the risk of leading a delegation to the United States of America (U.S.A.) to plead his case.
“I addressed the Congress for General Buhari,” he continued. As a result, what we’re doing is similar to what we’ve done in the past.”
