There are growing insinuations that the leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, may leave the party following a perceived unfavorable outcome at the recently concluded party convention and other indications that he may not be given an automatic ticket by the party to run for the office of the President in 2023.
Going by reports currently making rounds, Tinubu has already started consulting with the leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), for a possible alternative platform to achieve his ambition of grabbing the office of the President of Nigeria.
Tinubu seems to have been out of favor in recent times. Apart from what many pundits have termed his ‘loosing out’ with the election of a new crop of leaders at the recently conducted APC convention, he has failed to garner commitment for support from his party bigwigs. For instance, Governor Nasir El-Rufai told him that although he was aware of his Presidential ambition, he should bear in mind that it is God that ordains a leader.
That response came after Tinubu had donated N 50 million to Kaduna State on a visit to Governor El-Rufai following terrorist attacks on the railway in Kaduna which claimed many lives while many others were abducted.
