Nigerians seeking to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom can apply for the 2027/2028 Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship, with applications now open through the official Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) system.
The fully funded scholarship is designed for talented candidates from eligible low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries who require financial support to undertake full-time taught Master’s programmes at UK universities.
The scholarship is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and is intended to equip beneficiaries with knowledge and skills that can contribute to sustainable development in their home countries.
For the 2027/2028 academic year, successful applicants are expected to begin their studies in September or October 2027.
Applications are being submitted through CSC Central, the official online application platform. The CSC said it would not accept applications or supporting documents submitted outside the designated system.
Applicants are required to apply through a nominating agency, with national nominating agencies serving as the main route for applications. Selected non-governmental organisations and charitable bodies may also nominate candidates.
The commission said it does not accept direct applications for the scholarship, meaning candidates must complete the required application process with both the CSC and an approved nominating body.
Prospective applicants are advised to prepare their application responses and supporting documents before starting the online submission process.
The application system uses two-factor authentication, requiring applicants to have access to either a smartphone or a second email account.
The CSC also advised candidates to submit their applications early, warning that the online system could become busy as the deadline approaches and late applications would not be accepted.
The scholarship programme focuses on six development themes: science and technology for development; promoting innovation and entrepreneurship; strengthening global peace, security and governance; improving population health, health systems and capacity; strengthening resilience and response to crises; and access, inclusion and opportunity.
The CSC has also warned prospective applicants against fraudulent third-party organisations claiming to represent the scholarship programme. It advised candidates to use only the official CSC website and application systems and not to submit personal information or supporting documents through unofficial platforms.
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission offers about 800 awards annually across its various postgraduate study and professional development programmes.
