Traders across Anambra State, operating under the umbrella of the Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), have formally declared their support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election bid. As a demonstration of their commitment, the traders presented a symbolic N10 million donation to back his campaign for a second term in office.
The endorsement took place during a well-attended rally at the Chuba Ikpeazu Township Stadium in Onitsha. Presenting the cheque on behalf of ASMATA were the association’s President-General, Chief Humphrey Anuna, and its Patron, Chief Jude Nwankwo. Both leaders praised Governor Soludo’s performance during his first term, highlighting the governor’s achievements as the key reason for their collective decision to support his continued leadership.
Anuna and Nwankwo expressed confidence that traders throughout the state would unite behind Soludo in the upcoming November 8 governorship election. They noted that the governor’s development-oriented agenda, particularly his infrastructure and economic policies, have positively impacted the trading community, which forms a large portion of the state’s economy.
In his response, Governor Soludo expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, describing the traders as vital partners in the state’s growth. He promised that, if re-elected, his administration would build on the foundations laid in his first term and accelerate development, especially in areas that benefit market communities.
The governor also urged the traders to remain loyal to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), encouraging them to support the party’s candidates across all 326 wards in the state to ensure the continuation of progressive governance and policies that favor the people.
