New Service Chiefs Pay Courtesy Visit to NSA Ribadu as Senate Prepares for Their Confirmation

The newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, has led other recently named Service Chiefs on a courtesy visit to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, in Abuja. The visit formed part of their ongoing familiarization engagements following their appointments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

During the visit, discussions reportedly focused on strengthening coordination among the various arms of the nation’s security architecture, as the new military chiefs settle into their roles. The meeting also symbolized an important step in fostering synergy between the Armed Forces and the Office of the National Security Adviser, a relationship considered crucial in addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Service Chiefs are awaiting confirmation by the National Assembly. President Tinubu, in a formal communication to the Senate, urged lawmakers to give swift attention to their confirmation process. The letter, read during Tuesday’s plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, emphasized the need for prompt approval to ensure the smooth functioning of Nigeria’s security system and enhance operational stability.

In response, the Senate referred the President’s request to the Committee of the Whole, with the screening and confirmation exercise expected to take place next week.
