INEC Records Major Progress in Logistics, BVAS Use During Anambra Election – Dr. Chikezie Obasi

——-Says the improvement marks a positive shift in Nigeria’s electoral process and INEC’s commitment to transparency and credibility in elections.

A Public Affairs Analyst and Secretary, Guild of Public Affairs Analysts of Nigeria, Enugu State Chapter, Dr. Chikezie Obasi, made this known while speaking on a topic “A Review of Anambra Governorship Election,” on the programme, Beyond the Headlines on Freedom Square TV, anchored by Uchenna Cyril Anioke.

Dr. Obasi commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he described as a remarkable improvement in logistics and the functionality of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during the recently concluded Anambra election.

He noted that compared to previous elections, the smooth deployment of materials and timely arrival of officials at polling units reflected INEC’s growing efficiency and preparedness.

According to him, “on INEC side there was an improvement on logistics. The improvement is noted to be significantly better during off cycle elections. During off cycle elections, INEC has performed credibly well. There was this arrival of human and material resources to the polling units in time unlike what we used to have by 1pm, where polling units and agents has not received their materials. But INEC was able to take delivery of human and material resources as early as possible.”

He also praised the enhanced performance of the BVAS machines, which significantly reduced voter accreditation delays and technical glitches.

“There is also an improvement on the BVAS. The time it takes to have BVAS accredit one has reduced. There was an upload of significant results such that many people were aware of the person that was coasting to victory before 9pm on Saturday. So these are little improvements we saw,” he stated.

Dr. Obasi therefore, urged the Commission not to relent but to continue refining its logistics and technology strategies ahead of future polls.
