Speaker Abbas Hails Young African Entrepreneurs as Drivers of Innovation and Economic Growth

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has emphasised that young African entrepreneurs and professionals remain the driving force behind innovation, employment generation, and economic stability, noting that their enthusiasm, creativity, and readiness to take calculated risks are steadily opening up new opportunities across different sectors of the economy.

He made this observation on Sunday during the CEOs Network Awards Gala and Cocktail Night, organised by CEOs Network Africa at the National Assembly. The Speaker was represented at the event by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, CFR.

According to Speaker Abbas, it is encouraging to recognise the pivotal role young people continue to play in shaping economic progress. He stressed that Nigeria’s and Africa’s long-term prosperity will largely depend on how effectively this group is nurtured, mentored, and empowered to maximise its potential. He added that their energy and boldness remain critical to expanding economic possibilities and strengthening resilience across the continent.

He explained that the gathering created a valuable opportunity to reflect on major challenges facing Africa, particularly in relation to leadership, enterprise development, governance, and sustainable growth. Beyond celebrating outstanding leaders, he said the event also served as a networking platform that brings together people and resources aimed at building a more inclusive, adaptive, and sustainable Africa.

Speaker Abbas highlighted the urgency of building a strong network of young professionals capable of driving Africa’s vision for unity and prosperity at a time of global uncertainty and heightened economic competition. He noted that Africa’s best path forward lies in developing a single, integrated continental economy that can expand markets and attract increased foreign direct investment.

While reaffirming the House’s commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive economic participation, he stated that progressive laws which encourage entrepreneurship and remove barriers to opportunity are vital to national development. He assured that the 10th House remains focused on creating policies that protect businesses, reward innovation, promote fairness, and inspire young Nigerians to invest their skills and resources in the country’s future.

He further commended CEOs Network Africa for its impact over the past seven years, describing the organisation as a growing force in national and continental development through its promotion of leadership, entrepreneurship, and ethical values. He noted that the Network’s initiatives align closely with the 10th House’s eight-point Legislative Agenda, particularly in youth engagement, economic growth, institutional strengthening, and inclusive governance.

Also speaking at the event, the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Alhaji Jibrin Baba Ndace, praised the organisation for showcasing what is possible in Nigeria and urged young entrepreneurs to prioritise mentorship and relationship-building as part of their growth journey.

Similarly, the President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku, FNIPR, encouraged young people to focus on leaving lasting legacies, stressing that meaningful impact and service to humanity are what truly define success. He also dismissed negative international narratives about Nigeria, insisting that the country’s challenges are not unique and can be effectively managed.

In his remarks, the founder of CEOs Network Africa, Mr. Alli-Bob Cinwon, said the organisation began eight years ago as a small idea shared among passionate young people. He noted that it has since grown into a network of over 20,000 young entrepreneurs across Africa, hosting several award galas, networking events, and leadership training programmes, all driven by commitment, courage, and shared vision.
