Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Tuesday alleged that U.S. forces suffered heavy losses during the opening phase of what it described as retaliatory military operations, claims that American authorities have strongly denied.
An IRGC representative stated that as many as 650 U.S. personnel were either killed or injured within the first two days of strikes targeting American military positions across the region. According to the spokesperson, Iranian missiles and drones repeatedly hit facilities associated with the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, allegedly causing about 160 casualties at U.S. bases there.
U.S. officials swiftly dismissed the figures as inaccurate. The American military reported that, as of Monday evening, six service members had died in operations connected to the conflict with Iran. Additional media reports indicated that 18 troops sustained serious injuries. Washington also rejected assertions that there were any fatalities at its installations in Bahrain.
The IRGC further claimed that a U.S. combat logistics vessel was severely damaged and that four cruise missiles were launched toward the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, forcing it to alter course toward the Indian Ocean.
In response, U.S. Central Command refuted the allegation that the carrier had been struck, labeling the claim as disinformation and insisting that the missiles did not come close to hitting the vessel.
The conflicting accounts from both sides remain unverified by independent sources, making it difficult to establish the precise scale of casualties or damage.
