Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu Empowers Over 50 Journalists With Laptops, and other Working Tools

Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu, member representing Enugu North/Enugu South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has empowered over 50 media practitioners and journalists with laptops and other working tools to enhance their professional duties.

Atu presented the laptops and other equipment on Friday, 11th September 2026, at the closing ceremony of the Digital Skills for Agricultural Development 2026 seminar held in Enugu.

The programme was organised as part of his constituency project aimed at providing modern tools to support agricultural extension activities and strengthen digital skills among relevant stakeholders.

Speaking at the ceremony, Atu said the media empowerment was designed to equip journalists with the tools and skills required to effectively perform their duties, promote development and contribute meaningfully to society.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the platforms and resources available to them responsibly, stressing the important role of the media in shaping public opinion and promoting positive development.

According to him, journalists have a responsibility to use their platforms to educate the public, promote good policies and contribute to building a better society.

The lawmaker also encouraged the beneficiaries to see the empowerment not merely as the provision of laptops, but as an opportunity to improve their capacity, embrace digital tools and produce content capable of driving positive change.

He urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to contribute to national development rather than focusing only on what government could do for them.

“Let’s ask what we can do for Nigeria, not what Nigeria will do for us,” Atu said.

He expressed confidence that with collective commitment and responsible contributions from citizens, including media practitioners, Nigeria could achieve meaningful development.

The seminar focused on the application of digital skills to agricultural development and the use of modern communication tools to promote safer and more productive agricultural activities.
