Caleb Mutfwang has reassured residents of justice while imposing a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area after a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba.
The governor made the announcement on Monday during a visit to the scene of the Sunday night violence, where he vowed that those responsible would be quickly identified, arrested, and brought to justice. He also promised that the state government would take full responsibility for the medical care of those injured and ensure that victims who lost their lives are given proper burials.
The attack, which reportedly took place around 7:30 p.m. on March 29, 2026, has significantly raised tensions within the community, leading to heightened security presence and operations across the affected area.
In a widely shared video, Mutfwang was seen addressing angry youths while standing on a bulletproof armoured vehicle. Speaking partly in Hausa, he appealed for calm and urged residents to avoid retaliatory actions, emphasizing that security agencies were actively monitoring the situation.
Describing the incident as deeply distressing, the governor pointed out that Angwan Rukuba is a multicultural community made up of people from various ethnic groups, stressing that the tragedy has impacted everyone, not just a particular group.
He passionately appealed to residents to remain law-abiding, warning against taking matters into their own hands. At the same time, he reassured affected families that the government would provide necessary support, including covering hospital expenses for the injured and assisting with burial arrangements for those who died.
Mutfwang further revealed that President Bola Tinubu had been informed about the incident, adding that efforts were already underway to ensure justice is served and to restore peace in the area.
