Dangote Refinery Boosts Fuel and Fertiliser Exports to Africa Amid Iran-Linked Supply Disruptions

The Dangote Refinery has ramped up the export of petrol and fertiliser to several African countries facing shortages triggered by disruptions linked to the Iran conflict.

President of the Dangote Industries, Aliko Dangote, disclosed on Monday that the refinery has the capacity to meet growing demand across the continent. He revealed that about 17 shipments of petrol have already been delivered to various African nations.

In addition, exports of urea fertiliser have recently increased as buyers seek alternative supply sources. Dangote made these remarks during a visit by United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed to the refinery and fertiliser facility in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.

He assured that the company is capable of supplying not just Nigeria but also countries across West, Central, and East Africa. According to him, the company has recently shifted more focus toward African markets, particularly in fertiliser distribution, though specific figures were not disclosed.

The facility is designed to produce up to three million metric tonnes of urea annually, with a large portion typically exported to markets in the United States and South America.

Despite increased production, fuel prices in Nigeria have climbed to record levels, as higher crude oil costs continue to offset the impact of the refinery’s output.

Dangote also noted that the refinery is seeking to secure more crude oil supplies priced in local currency as part of efforts to reduce the cost of fuel domestically.
