Peter Obi Meets Bala Mohammed in Bauchi Amid Defection Speculation

Peter Obi, a leading figure in the African Democratic Congress and former Labour Party presidential candidate, on Thursday visited Bauchi State for a private meeting with Governor Bala Mohammed.

The discussions, held behind closed doors at the Presidential Lounge of the Government House in Bauchi, were not immediately disclosed, although both leaders were expected to brief the press afterward.

Obi’s visit comes amid heightened political manoeuvring surrounding Mohammed, who currently chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, as speculation continues over his possible defection ahead of the 2027 elections.

The governor had earlier indicated interest in joining the ADC, making the remark on March 31 while receiving a delegation of the party led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, at the Government House.

However, subsequent developments introduced uncertainty into his political direction, particularly after he hosted the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Abba Yusuf, a meeting that intensified speculation about his next political move.

As Mohammed remains a key figure within the PDP, his eventual decision on whether to remain or defect is being closely monitored, given its potential impact on the political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
