ADC’s Salihu Predicts APC Defeat in 2027, Questions INEC Credibility

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ladan Salihu, has predicted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will struggle to withstand public dissatisfaction in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Salihu argued that the current administration under Bola Tinubu may fail to meet standards of electoral credibility, insisting that widespread anger among citizens could shape the outcome of the polls.

He also renewed calls for the removal or resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, accusing him of lacking both integrity and competence—claims the electoral body has denied while maintaining its neutrality.

Salihu criticised the INEC leadership, saying the chairman had not demonstrated the level of impartiality expected in overseeing elections in a country as large as Nigeria.

When asked whether the ADC might boycott the election if the situation remains unchanged, he declined to give a direct answer, noting that the party would decide its next steps at the appropriate time while continuing to push for leadership changes at the electoral commission.

Despite the APC’s dominance across many states and its strong presence in the National Assembly, Salihu maintained that public support ultimately lies with the people, expressing confidence that the opposition could capitalise on growing dissatisfaction and perform strongly in 2027.
