The African Democratic Congress has strongly criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress, accusing it of playing a role in the internal crises affecting opposition parties across the country.
In a statement released on Tuesday, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi alleged that the APC orchestrated divisions within the Peoples Redemption Party shortly after its leadership, led by Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, paid a visit to ADC national chairman David Mark about three weeks earlier.
Abdullahi argued that speculation linking the PRP to a possible coalition was quickly followed by the sudden emergence of a faction within the party, challenging its previously stable leadership. He described the development as suspicious, suggesting a pattern of interference.
He further raised concerns about what he termed a narrowing democratic space under the APC, stating that while the ruling party may dismiss the crises as internal issues within opposition groups, the recurring pattern points to something more deliberate.
The ADC spokesman warned that attempts to weaken opposition platforms could ultimately destabilise the political system, noting that strategies built on undermining rivals may have long-term negative consequences for the country.
However, both the president and the APC have repeatedly denied any involvement in the internal disputes affecting opposition parties.
