Super Falcons Open WAFCON Preparations with Morocco Camp Ahead of Title Defence

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will commence preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a training camp in Mohammedia, Morocco, beginning Wednesday, July 15, as the nine-time African champions intensify efforts to reclaim the continental title.

The team will spend one week in Mohammedia before relocating to Rabat, where all three of their Group C matches will be played during the tournament.

Head coach Justine Madugu is expected to announce his final squad before the team’s departure for the competition, with the training camp serving as the final phase of preparations.

Nigeria heads into the tournament in high spirits following back-to-back friendly victories over Senegal last month. The two matches provided the coaching crew with an opportunity to assess the team’s readiness and fine-tune tactics ahead of the championship.

The Super Falcons will be targeting a record-extending 11th WAFCON title and remain one of the favourites to lift the trophy, having dominated women’s football on the continent for decades.

Nigeria will begin its Group C campaign against Malawi at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday, July 28.

The Falcons will then face Zambia at the same venue on Saturday, August 1, in what is expected to be the group’s biggest fixture, before concluding the group stage against Egypt at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Wednesday, August 5.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals as Nigeria begins its quest to reclaim the African crown.
